Tending Hay Bales © Paola Berthoin, 2016
This painting was entered into the Carmel Valley Association and the Carmel Valley Arts Association collaborative joint Art Event that took place in Carmel Valley Village on April 18th, "Inspired Impressions of Our Rural Valley!"
It received the President's Award for Best in Show from Carmel Valley Association's President Pris Walton. The judges voted the painting, "Tending Hay Bales" as the work of art that best captured the art competition theme of "Inspired Carmel Valley Impression." It also received First Place from the Carmel Valley Art Association Board of artist directors who worked with the CVA to put on the show.
I watch this field as it changes through the year as it is at the bottom of the hill from where I live. It represents a remnant of what life in Carmel Valley used to be before so many rushing cars and houses took over. There are a few more parcels of prime agricultural land left in the valley. Some are slated for development unfortunately. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this prime land could be saved from being paved over? That would aid in helping to preserve the rural quality and sustainability of Carmel Valley.

Wolter's Field
© Paola Berthoin, 2016
The Wolter's farmed this land for years until they retired. The land was going to be used for a dog park, but it was ultimately voted down due to increase of traffic among other concerns. It could be turned into sites for eleven homes in the coming years. There is more acreage that is not shown in this image. This open space is what makes Carmel Valley what it is.
