Watershed Landscapes
This series of watershed landscape paintings began in 2007 and continues to grow... I went out most every Friday. Each time, before painting, I began with writing reflections of the physical surroundings and internal place I found myself. This project kept me grounded in the reality of the moment and the beauty of the watershed. The light through fog, smells of the earth after a rain, the pungency of sage on a hot day, the buoyant storm clouds all encouraged and challenged me to keep going, to see what the next experience would be painting in the watershed. It is my intention through these paintings to convey a holistic perspective of the watershed and to impart a dedication and caring for the land and river that supports our lives. I paint not only to convey the truth of what I see but also the feelings of the land as they speak to me through the elements of sun, wind, fog and rain. Purchase of these paintings and Paola's river paintings supports the ongoing conservation of habitat for red-legged frogs and many other animals that reside on the land where Paola lives. |

Carmel River Series In 2009, I turned my attention to the Carmel River, the lifeblood of the ecology of Carmel Valley that also supports our lives. The beauty and fragility of this river draw me in to capture its essence: the light in the leaves, the movement and reflections of water, the wildlife that depend on its flow to the Carmel Bay. It is through this river series that I continue to find new aspects of the valley to celebrate and revere. There are currently over thirty-five in the series. Some are featured in the book Passion for Place Community Reflections on the Carmel River Watershed. The Monterey County Weekly cover article about this project can be accessed at this link. Land Art
Land Art is a wonderful way to create with natural elements. Slowing down to
observe patterns of habitats ignites creative energy, deepens ecological
knowledge and inspires taking action in daily life to help heal our
relationship with the natural world. These images are available as photographs. Feel free to call 831-624-9467 or contact me through this website for more information. |
Land Art Classes
These
Land Art pieces have been created by students enrolled in classes taught
through the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District Let's Go Outdoors program. Land
art is a wonderful way to be in direct contact with the natural elements, exploring
and discovering textures, colors, sounds, and feelings not encountered through
other means of creating. Slowing down to observe patterns of habitats
ignites creative energy, deepens ecological knowledge and inspires taking
action in daily life to help heal our relationship with the natural world. Paola
is available to teach land art classes to adults and children, for an afternoon
or as a restorative retreat. Feel free to
contact Paola at 831-624-9467. |
